Chapter Thirteen

Chloe

Chloe had hoped that the smoothie would have kicked her headache to the curb, but it was as if a dull ache had set up residence at the base of her skull. She supposed it could have been worse had she not seen the neon sign for the smoothie place on their way out of town.

She always considered herself to be a free spirit, regardless of what happened to her when she was sixteen...or maybe because of it. Either way, she enjoyed being able to make connections, have fun, and make some good memories. She'd done that with Nathan Atwell, but she'd spent over an hour talking with both Nathan and Lionel. They'd known that she was with Graveside Mysteries, and neither one of them had said a word about Lionel owning Margaret Shiller's house.

"…in front of Margaret Shiller's home. Stories have been passed down from the mid-1900s about how she still haunts the house behind me. As you can see…"

While Ollie was filming Phoebe at an angle from the front yard, Chloe remained near the SUV. She'd slipped her sunglasses back over her eyes to protect them from the slight glare. Chloe had called the number given, but there hadn't been a prerecording. All she'd received was an automated response to leave a message. She'd done so, leaving her name and information. She'd also tacked on that they would be at the property for a good thirty minutes or so, hoping that Lionel would make an appearance before they drove over to the cemetery.

"…born in…"

Phoebe continued to recite some of the facts that she'd memorized from yesterday regarding Margaret Shiller. Chloe couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something off in her friend's behavior recently. At first, she’d thought that it had to do with whoever had sent the email. Then she thought that maybe it had to do with Jenna. Those two scenarios had been shelved the moment they'd stopped in front of the smoothie place.

Phoebe had lost all color in her face, and it was as if her mind had been transported somewhere else. It had taken her a good ten minutes before she'd returned to her old self. For a brief moment, Chloe had even suspected that Phoebe might be mad about last night, but she'd never been upset over Chloe adding a bit of fun to their ventures.

Phoebe seemed like her old self as she stood in front of the camera. She thrived in telling stories about the past, especially those tales that included hauntings and unexplained sightings. At least the rain had held off, allowing Phoebe to be comfortable in a pair of white jeans and a long-sleeved black t-shirt. The raincoat that she'd sported yesterday wouldn't have looked good on camera.

"We'll follow behind you so that we're not in the way. Try to get as
